"Reverse S", by award-winning sculptor, John Searles, is a wall sculpture made up of 11 squares and 12 circles, each one cut from inside of its next larger shape and assembled to create a stunning and dynamic statement.
This eye-catching art piece is made from two sheets of 1.4" aluminum. The shapes were cut out using inside cuts, sanded, filed and finished with primer, then edge blacked for dramatic effect. The aluminum surface was then protected with acxrylic clearcoat, followed by several coats of Renaissance Wax, a wax developed by the British Museum of Art. The 23 shapes were then painstakingly assembled (using bolts and welded-on screws) with the smaller pieces making a smaller reverse-s inside of the reverse-s created by the larger pieces.
Reverse-S represents how the totality of life is made up of many complementary parts which synergistically work together to create a sum much greater than each of the individual parts.
