Phone number: 269-469-1509. Sometimes I have time to answer questions by phone. Leave a detailed message and I will call you back. Email is better or ask me a question through the comment section. That lets everyone see the back & forth.
I enjoy giving advice, encouraging fellow artists and wannabes, suggesting ideas and techniques for artists and discussing commission ideas and art projects. If I get too wordy and full of myself, let me know.
I appreciate all constructive comments, suggestions, techniques, information and knowledge. The more we all know, the better off we will all be.
I strive to respond to calls and emails within 24 hours, but sometimes I am traveling, or swamped with the work and tight deadlines. Occasionally an email gets lost or a phone message misplaced. If you haven’t heard back from me, please try again.

My wife, Jill Underhill, is handling the gallery and most of the contacts with clients and customers, which is greatly helping me focus on the artwork. You can reach her at 269-469-8000 or by email.
Please be sure to include information about the design you are interested in, including name and size and the web page on which you found the image. Include the http link if possible.
Jill’s policy is to answer all emails and phone calls within 24 hours. Sometimes emails don’t get through, one way or the other, or they end up in the spam folder and aren’t found for a few days. If you haven’t heard back from her in 24 hours, please call her or email her again.
We make our living as artists and can’t afford to be flaky. Our policy is to please our clients and customers, to provide beautiful and well-made artwork in as timely a manner as possible, and to be efficiently business-like as the professionals we are.
We have a gallery here in beautiful Harbert, Michigan, right on the main thoroughfare and 1/2 mile from the incredible white sand beaches of Lake Michigan (they squeak with pleasure when you walk on them). We are open 2-4 days a week May 1 through September 30 and sometimes open on weekends in the off-season (October – April) – please call in advance to be sure.

Dear John,
Love your website.
I read about your exploration of SculptNouvea’s SmartCoat and ClearGuard on your Aluminium pieces.
Was wondering if you had tested the Clear Guard on stainless Steel?
I am looking for a hi gloss clear coat on my outdoor stainless steel Color dyed sculpture.
Hope to listen to your advise. Thank you.
Yours truly
Edwin
Hello Edwin – I recently tested 8 clear coats on Stainless Steel 321 – this is a high-titanium SS used for the 2mil tool wrap and my SS weavings. The best clear coat was Min Wax Lacquer from Home Depot. Krylon Crystal Clear gloss came in second. Both are sprayable, which will make it easier for you. I will post the tests soon. Note: a different coating might work better on a different grade of SS. You are probably using 304 or 201. Best, John
