Copper Weaving Metal Art Wall Sculpture

This is a fantastically colored 36" x 48" x 1" copper weaving. I create the colors using an oxy-acetylene torch, wire-brushed copper and my unique flame-coloring technique. The design is suggestive of an animal print, if the African Leopards could be multi-colored. The colors are caused by the varying thickness of the copper oxide coating the copper - the physicists call this the thin-film interference effect. The colors change with your angle of view and the nature of the lighting. The colors are permanent and will not fade in sunlight.

The concept is that of a virtual waterfall. The wavy strips were inspired by the movement of water and wavelets, spreading, coalescing, rippling, each curve completely unique. I use a glossy lacquer to enhance the feeling of wetness. At night, in low light, when the weaving catches the moonlight or firelight, it looks like gently rippling water.

The weight of this piece is 26 lbs. It is very easy to hang with the two D-rings secured to the rigid pole backing. I have it wired for hanging either vertically or horizontally.
