Circle Weaving Metal Wall Sculpture
This is an amazingly beautiful flame-colored, circle spiral copper weaving wall sculpture, 36" in diameter. These may be the most beautiful colors I have ever achieved with my unique flame-coloring technique. I now wire-brush the surface of the clean copper just before I flame it. It seems to create a diffraction grid, somewhat like the grooves in a CD. You have to see it to believe it. I had to tone down the colors and saturation with Photoshop. The colors do change with your angle of view and the lighting. Soft, subdued lighting makes the colors much more subdued.

This piece weighs about 20 lbs. It has a metal frame on the back with a picture wire secured to it - very easy to hang. I now place 1" foam blocks behind it to give it more separation from the wall. - very impressive.
This design includes an 8-legged spiral cut from one sheet of copper and 16 wedges cut from another. I use 16 oz. copper - not too thick, not too thin. Then the two sheets are woven together, doubling the thickness and weight of the copper. The cutting is all done by hand - I am starting to get Popeye arms. The edges and the centers are securely brazed. Four coats of Incralac are applied to the finished flamed copper. Incralac is a coating developed by the U.S. Navy for copper, brass and bronze. I have found that Incralac gives me the best colors.
